Other Psychology Services
We are proud to be developing our other psychology services to industries and organisations in independently and in collaboration with Crowther Mediation www.crowthermediation.co.uk. These include employee well being schemes, assessments, and group therapeutic programmes.
What is Mediation?
Mediation is a dynamic, structured, interactive process where an impartial third party assists disputing parties in resolving conflict through the use of specialized communication and negotiation techniques. All participants in mediation are encouraged to actively participate in the process.
Assessment measures and therapeutic modalities we use
We use gold standard assessment measures and tools for diagnostics, such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scales for example.
Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS)
ADOS is a semi – structured assessment of communication, social interaction and play (or imaginative use of materials) for individuals suspected of having autism or other developmental disorders. It is important to state that an ADOS Score is just one element of an ASD Diagnosis.
Wechsler Intelligence Scales
The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is an IQ test designed to measure intelligence and cognitive ability in adult and older adolscents.
We only use reliable and validated psychometric tools which are aligned to internationally recognised methods of categorising mental illness; the International Classification of Diseases, version 10 (ICD-10) or the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, version 5 (DSM-IV) such as Millon Multiaxial Clinical Inventory, version 4 (MCMI-IV) for example.
ICD-10
ICD-10 is the 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, a medical classification list by the World Health Organization. The ICD is used as a foundation for the identification of health trends and statistics globally. It is the international standard for defining and reporting diseases and health conditions. It allows the world to compare and share health information using a common language.
DSM-V
DSM-V contains descriptions, symptoms and the criteria for diagnosing mental disorders.
MCMI-IV
The Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory–IV (MCMI–IV) is a 195 item self-report instrument designed to help clinicians assess personality and psychopathology in adults age 18 years or older who are undergoing psychological or psychiatric assessment or treatment.
Therapeutic Services /Modalities
Our main treatment modality is cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), which is often the treatment of choice for a range of common psychological difficulties. A new wave of therapies including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) involve more emotional focused coping techniques and draw on ancient Eastern philosophy. We tailor the treatment modality to the presenting issues, assessment findings, and your requirements to create a treatment package that is flexible and wholly responsive to your needs.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT has been used effectively to help treat workplace stress, test anxiety, social anxiety disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and psychosis.
Working with a therapist, you will learn to listen to your own self-talk, or the way you talk to yourself specifically about traumatic events, problematic relationships, physical limitations, or other issues. ACT can help decide if an issue requires immediate action and change or if it can be accepted for what it is while you learn to make behavioral changes that can affect the situation. Looking at what hasn’t worked in the past to help reduce repeated patterns of behaviour. Once you have faced and accepted your current issues, you make a commitment to stop fighting your past and your emotions and, instead, start practicing more confident and optimistic behaviour, based on your personal values and goals.

Anxiety UK recommends the apple technique in triggering situations:
APPLE
Acknowledge the uncertainty as it comes to mind.
Pause – Don’t react as you normally do. Don’t react at all. Just pause and breath.
Pull back – Tell yourself this is just the worry talking, and this apparent need for certainty is not helpful and not necessary. It is only a thought or feeling. Don’t believe everything you think. Thoughts are not statements or facts.
Let go – Let go of the thought or feeling. It will pass. You don’t have to respond to them. You might imagine them floating away in a bubble or cloud.
Explore – Explore the present moment, because right now, in this moment, all is well. Notice your breathing and the sensations of your breathing. Notice the ground beneath you. Look around and notice what you see, what you hear, what you can touch, what you can smell. Right now. Then shift your focus of attention to something else – on what you need to do, on what you were doing before you noticed the worry, or do something else – mindfully with your full attention.
